Smokefree
Smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable death in New Zealand. Cigarette smoke, including second-hand smoke, is unsafe at any level of exposure and is a known cause of ill health in infants and children.
Our smokefree work
Toi Te Ora Public Health has a goal to reduce the proportion of year 10 students smoking and supports actions to achieve the Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 Goal, by supporting:
-
Compliance with smokefree environments legislation
-
Smokefree workplaces
-
Smokefree schools and early years centres
-
Smokefree marae
-
Smokefree public places
-
Tobacco-free retailers (retailers no longer selling cigarettes)
-
Smokefree events such as World Smokefree Day
