What We Do
Toi Te Ora - Public Health Service develops and delivers a wide range of health promotion and health protection programmes for people in the greater Bay of Plenty and Lakes districts.
Our work involves people and organisations working together to improve the health of our communities and people at risk. The focus of our work supports the social and physical environments in which we live, and delivers programmes encouraging healthy activities.
Toi Te Ora’s health protection services are about protecting people, preventing harm and planning for threats.
Our health protection officers' work includes environmental health, communicable disease, chronic disease management and health services planning. We have three medical officers of health who are trained as specialists in public health medicine and play a supportive leadership role in guiding the health protection unit.
Our health promotion team promotes healthy ideas and programmes to help people in our community, in education, in the workplace and the environment to lead healthy, happy and rewarding lives.
The team’s work involves creating supportive environments, influencing policy and organisational change to support health improvement. Toi Te Ora Health Improvement Advisors work on a range of issues from nutrition and physical activity to marae and healthy homes.
