The influenza vaccine for New Zealand for 2017 is expected to protect against most of the strains currently circulating.
The influenza vaccine for the New Zealand 2017 influenza season contains the following three virus strains:
- A (H1N1): an A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1) - like virus (new strain)
A (H3N2): an A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2) - like virus
- B/Brisbane/60/2008 - like virus
Quadrivalent vaccines contain viruses listed above, plus the additional B virus:
- B/Phuket/3073/2013 like virus.
Extension to the end of the Influenza Immunisation Programme
The funded influenza vaccine will be available until 31 December each year from now on (pregnant women, those aged 65 years and over and those aged under 65 years with certain medical conditions) and who were not vaccinated before or during winter.
